Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger: A brief review

As a kid, I loved dinosaurs. Movies like Jurrasic Park made them look so baddass back in the 90s. Actually, I can still remember the roar of the T-rex in that movie just like when I first heard it in theaters some 20 years ago. Well, that just gave away my age! Watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (borrowing suits and battle footage from Zyuranger) only added to the idea that dinosaurs kick ass. Again, the T-rex was still one of my favorites of the group that were shown as Zords in the show (not counting Dragonzord. I mean…..it was a dragon…not a dino). With Sentai, the dino theme just recently found anothing incarnation with Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. The show seems like a breath of fresh air after Gobuster. Yes, I publically admit to not being a fan of Gobuster. Now with a new beginning, how does this new series do in living up to the awesomness displayed by previous dino teams such as Zyuranger?

VAMOLA!

First, I want to give a huge thank you to TV-Nihon for subbing this show. They do amazing work. I know that there are other sentai subgroups out there, but I am a huge fan of TV-Nihon and shall be forever thankful for what they do. Thanks to them, I was able to watch episodes of this amazing series. I always expect for the first episode of a new series to be that “make or break” episode. This series premiered with things starting out on a high note. You’re introduced to the bad guys, The Deboss Army, who are an alien race that invaded the Earth during prehistoric times. They were defeated by Toren (this season’s Zordon type persony….thingy…lol) and the Zyudenryu (put simply, this season’s mechs). The Deboss army now has revived and is looking to once again invade Earth.

Enter our heroes! YOU’LL BE SURPRISED WHEN YOU SEE THEM!!!

I don’t know what it is, but I am really becoming a fan of this show. Maybe it is how lighthearted it is, perhaps it is the uptempo samba themed music, or the henshin sequence. Either way, this show is a joy to watch. After being introduced to the Deboss Army, you are shown our heroes who one by one reveal their identities to each other. I think that made for interesting programming. I can’t recall the last time that a sentai did not want to work with each other *cough*. Anyway, this team kicks ass in an almost Gokaiger-like fashion.

Final Thoughts

I think that this show is amazing to see after the Gobuster drought (in my opinion) of last season. It is fresh and exciting. Not to mention that the music is also pretty good. I suggest checking it out.
